(SCAVMA).
The value of teamwork has been instilled in us since the very
beginning. As student doctors and, eventually, veterinarians,
we know we cannot achieve success all on our own.
There are numerous organizations and committees that bring
members of the profession together, whether they are
students or practicing veterinarians. We share ideas for
improvement within our field, help each other and extend
our sense of compassion by giving back to the community.

SCAVMA is one of the organizations that help relieve the
stress of working toward success by holding events and
striving to contribute to the veterinary field in many ways.

It is a great privilege and experience to be part of SCAVMA.
“My favorite thing about SCAVMA is its involvement with so
many events and aspects of the University,” said Hannah
Mitchell, president of the WesternU chapter. “And it allows SCAVMA Treasurer Evelyn Bobbitt, Vice President Alexis Wohl, President Hannah Mitchell, Dr. Ken
me to become a member of the AVMA at graduation." Pawlowski, Dr. Phillip Nelson, CVMA delegate Jacob Merryman and Secretary Cynthia Pacheco.

SCAVMA members serve on committees responsible for numerous aspects of the organization. Among them:
1. The “big sib” committee matches first-year students with second-year mentors who can help the newcomers transition smoothly into veterinary school. This
contributes to the goal of helping each other.
2. The “community service” committee supports the annual “Spayghetti dinner,” a night of food, beverages and socializing that raises money for local shelters.

3. SCAVMA also is a sponsor of the yearly Student Government Association (SGA) Vet Games, which take place on Halloween. First- and second-year students
compete in fun games, which relieves stress and bonds the two classes together.
4. The group also brings to the campus guest speakers and organizes helpful workshops.

5. Every student is automatically a member, and members in good standing are allowed to become a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association
(AVMA) upon obtaining a DVM degree. AVMA offers many benefits, including continuing education and access to medical and liability insurance.
